This corner of Trafalgar Lane is the site, with vestigial remains of the village of Hillhousefield, a hamlet largely composed of the servants and the estate workers on the estate of Hillhousefield.
Hillhousefield House was sold to David Bruce Peebles who renamed it Tay House in 1876 and built his gas engineering works there. Hillhousefield House was situated west of South Fort Street.
