James Currie, of James Currie & Co, managers of the Leith, Hull & Hamburg Steam Packet Co. 16 Bernard Street. House Trinity Cottage, Ferry Road.
James Currie was born in Newhaven on the 13th April 1863, his father had come to Leith to run the Leith Hull and Hamburg Steam Packet Co. but branched out to create his own shipping companies, James Currie and the Currie Line.
Educated at Edinburgh Academy 1876-1879 and then Edinburgh University and Cambridge, graduating MA. He took over the running of his father's companies in 1900 when his father died. In 1897 he was elected fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, he served as treasurer to the society from 1906-1926. He died on 3rd Nov. 1930.
