This corner of Trafalgar Lane is the site, and vestigial remains of the village of Hillhousefield, a hamlet largely composed of servants and estate workers on the estate of Hillhousefield House.
Hillhousefield House was sold to David Bruce Peebles who renamed it Tay House in 1876 and built his gas engineering works there.
