The Kobenhavn was built by the Leith firm of Ramage & Ferguson in 1921 at the Victoria dock, it took 8 years to complete and was known as the Big Dane and was the largest in the world when completed.
It had a a figurehead of a helmeted Bishop Absalon. The ship departed for Northern Jutland on September 21, 1928 heading to Buenos Aires on her 10th and final voyage and arrived on November 17 1928. They were heading to Australia without a cargo expecting to take 45 days. The ship was last heard of on Dec. 22 1928, 900 miles from Tristan Da Cunha in the South Atlantic Ocean, and was never heard of again.
