Title
A poem named "Junction Bridge, Leith"
Description
Junction Bridge, Leith

I stood on the bridge at midnight
As the clocks were striking the hour
And a scent was wafted toward me
Not sent from a garden bower...

How often! Oh, how often
In the days that had gone by
I had felt that sickening odour,
And had heard the reasons why...

Then I thought of N. Leith parish
And its health I understood
For the river supplied it gratis,
And tainted my daily food...
