The Vaults, in Giles Street, were formerly the premises of Messrs J.G. Thomson, vintners and whisky blenders and bottlers, founded in 1709. The last bottling was done on the premises in 1964, and the building was later converted into flats, a museum, bar and restaurant. The Scotch Malt Whisky Society has been located there since 1983.
