A contemporary description of this day nursery was:

'Its underlying idea is to make it possible for mothers who have to go out to work, to leave their children in healthy and happy surroundings, where they will be well fed, well cared for, and well trained. The children must be brought clean to the Nursery in the morning, and when working hours are over the mothers call and take them home again.'

'The daily fee for one child is 3d, and for 2, 3 and 4 children of one family, 5d, 7d, and 9d. Children admitted from two months and upwards. The Nursery is open daily (except Sundays) from 5.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m.'

In the course of 1909, 7046 children were entrusted to the care of the matron and staff.
