The Vaults are the oldest existing business premises in Scotland.
The earliest mention of the Vaults is in 1439, when Sir Robert Logan of Restalrig died and divided his estates among his three grandsons. William Logan's 'Blak Vouts' marked the point where the lands of Coatfield and Sheriff Brae met the lands of Saint Leonards, which belonged to the monks of Holyrood.
