The oldest and most valuable complete navigational instrument in existence. The astrolabe, brass, eight inches in diameter and weighing 6lb 6oz, was designed to calculate latitude. It was probably made in Portugal in 1555 - the date stamped on one side. Experts have suggested its value is at least £250,000.
