To the left of the picture of the Kirkgate is an ancient inn with three-arched entrance. This might well have been either Lucky Clephane's or Mrs Straiton's tavern, in both of which inns the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers on Leith Links dined on Saturday evenings after their day's play on the Links in the mid-18th century.
The Czar and Czarina of Russia landed at the Victoria Jetty, Leith Docks on 22nd September 1896. The Tantallon Castle brought them from their yacht in the roads. They were welcomed by Provost John Bennet and then by Lord Provost McDonald of Edinburgh.
Ferry Road runs from Leith to the eastern end of Davidson's Mains in the west of Edinburgh.
