At the rebuilding of the church in 1846-7 many relics of the old building were either destroyed or passed into private hands. Dr Robertson the antiquarian was then a member of the congregation, and he had the west window removed to the garden of his house at 21 Albany Street. On either side of it he had built in the carved stone panels bearing the arms of Mary of Guise and of Mary Queen of Scots.

The window is in the style of the decorated Gothic, and the present west window is in all respects a reproduction of the original.

In 1911 the west window was purchased and removed to a parish in Argyllshire, where it is built into the parish church. The two carved panels were removed then to the front vestibule of South Leith Parish Church.

The other photograph shows John Crichton, who was born in 1915. After Army service, he was elected Councillor for Central Leith in 1947, and Regional Councillor for Lorne/Harbour from the establishment of Lothian Regional Council in 1974. He was Convener of the Region 1978-82.
