Inverkeithing is situated roughly 10 miles south west of Edinburgh, across the Firth of Forth. The origins of the town date back possibly as far as a Roman settlement in the 1st century AD. The site was certainly inhabited by the 5th century. Buildings and structures of historic interest include the a 14th century friary guesthouse which now houses Inverkeithing's museum, and the 15th century mercat cross, an historic focal point for commercial activity and town events.
