The mansion of the Logans of Sheriff Brae was built in 1636 or earlier and stood until 1840. Sir John Logan was under-Sheriff of Edinburgh when it was built, which is the origin of the street name. Some of the sculptures around the dormer windows have been preserved in the north wall of the manse of St Thomas's Church, which was built on the former site of the mansion of the Logans.
