The text says 'Tenants of these houses in the vicinity of the former Alhambra Cinema, in Leith Walk, are to protest at Edinburgh Dean of Guild Court against proposals by an English firm to demolish the cinema and erect a bonded warehouse on the site. They fear that the erection of the bond might lead to a tragedy similar to the recent Glasgow fire, in which 19 firemen lost their lives.'
The Alhambra Cinema had closed in 1958 due to falling audiences. In 1962 Edinburgh Corporation's Planning Committee agreed in principle to a proposal to build a supermarket on the site. It was finally demolished in 1974.
