Bonaly was once a village outside Edinburgh and is now a suburb in the north-west of the city. Bonaly Tower in the north was designed by William H. Playfair in 1836 for Lord Cockburn. David Octavius Hill and Robert Adamson were regular guests of Lord Cockburn at Bonaly.
