McCulloch of Pilton monument, Greyfriars Kirkyard, Edinburgh

Description

Two men and a woman are in front of the the McCulloch Monument in Greyfriars Churchyard, Edinburgh. The tomb has carved stonework which includes columns and heraldic symbols. A metal fence encloses one side of the tomb. Beyond to the left side, stands the Martyrs' Monument.

Greyfriars Kirkyard, or Graveyard, is the burial ground of Greyfriars Kirk in Edinburgh. It houses the graves of many notable historical figures including the poet Allan Ramsay, the geologist James Hutton and the architect William Adam. In 1679 several hundred Covenanters were imprisoned in the Kirkyard awaiting trial.
