Full page spread showing a large crowd of men, women, and children. In the foreground of the picture, a man with a drum around his neck stands with a bugle to his mouth - and a drum stick in his other outstretched arm. A piece of fabric has been attached to his bugle and reads "A Merry Christmas", and a large banner sails in the wind behind him. It reads, "Graphic Christmas Number" in capital letters.
The year 1878 is written on the barrel of his drum - and attached to the coat of a boy beside him (the boy is also playing a pipe of sorts) is written the year, 1879. He stands on a wooden podium of sorts, and we can see the gable end of some kind of hut or building behind him. Pictures are attached to it.
In the distance is a church and a town with smoking chimneys.
