Title
Title page for "Graphic Christmas Number" from 'Gleanings from the "Graphic"' by Randolph Caldecott
Description
Full page spread showing a large crowd of men, women, and children. In the foreground of the picture, a man with a drum around his neck stands with a bugle to his mouth - and a drum stick in his other outstretched arm. A piece of fabric has been attached to his bugle and reads "A Merry Christmas", and a large banner sails in the wind behind him. It reads, "Graphic Christmas Number" in capital letters.
The year, 1878, is written on the barrel of his drum - and attached to the coat of a boy standing beside him (the boy is also playing a pipe of sorts) is the following year, 1879. The man with the bugle stands on a wooden podium of sorts, and crowds of people swarm all around him. We can see the gable end of some kind of hut or building behind him with posters on it.
The crowds snake into the distance, towards a church and a town with smoking chimneys.
