The photographs in this exhibition were kindly loaned to us by Bill Hall for our digital collections. It contains images dating from the early 1900s to the 1980s, taken across Scotland.
Brought up in Edinburgh he has collected many family photographs and items covering his mother's early years and his own boyhood.
David Henderson, Bill's Great Uncle, was born in 1886. In 1909 David sailed from Liverpool, bound for New York. The 1910 U.S Census, finds him as a lodger in Manhattan, working as a chauffeur. He married Bessie who had lived in the next street from him in Edinburgh in 1912. He sent these photos back to his family showing the Delaunay-Belleville car left to him by his employer when she died and which set him up for life.
