In 1908, the Scottish National Exhibition was held in Saughton Park. When the exhibition closed, the buildings were taken to Seafield on the Firth of Forth near Portobello and re-erected to create the Marine Gardens. The Gardens contained an amusement park, theatre, ballroom and a figure of eight rollercoaster.
