The Scottish Independence Referendum took place on 18th September 2014. Voters were asked to answer "Yes" or "No" to the question "Should Scotland be an independent country?" The "No" side won with 55.3% of the vote. The turnout was exceptionally high - 84.6% - demonstrating how much the electorate had engaged with the debate. The "Yes Scotland" campaign was led by the First Minister of Scotland, Alex Salmond and the "Better Together" campaign was led by the Right Honourable Alastair Darling, M.P.
