Title
Captain William Ewart Gladstone-Millar
Description
This photograph shows Captain W.E. Gladstone-Millar wearing his kilt on active service with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. The kilt was covered by a khaki coloured apron to keep it clean, but more importantly as camouflage. The blue and green would have stood out in the mud filled trenches making its wearer an easy target for enemy fire.
