Title
Europe 1916
Description
"Am I not yet sufficiently civilized".
"This cartoon appeared in the early days of the war, 12 September 1914, with the title, "Europe: ' I suppose I was not civilized enough.' "It was hung in the London Exhibition of the artist's cartoons with the title altered as above. The design (though not one of the artist's favourites) of Europe with drooping cap of Liberty and blackened, criminal hand, bound to a wheel of her own monstrous cannon, is finely suggestive in its symbolism."
