Title
Mimeguri Shrine, Sumida River
Description
This print depicts a group of Japanese women carrying parasols while they walk along the east bank of the Sumida River. They are passing by Mimeguri Shrine, and the top of that
shrine's gate (torii) can be seen in the foreground of the print (this is a common
motif in views of the Sumida River). The season is spring and the east bank was a popular destination for viewing the cherry blossom. The small red cartouche reads 'Imado', and refers to an area on the far bank of the Sumida River. This print is one sheet from a larger work.
