Description
A group of old houses stand at Main Port, West Port, Edinburgh. Low buildings line the side of a lane that leads down to a dilapidated mansion. Most of the house's windows are missing or boarded up and a man stands in the doorway. Gathered round a cart in the yard in front of the house stands three men in flat caps. A small distance away another man stands holding the hand of a young girl. The gable ends of various buildings can be seen in the background.

The West Port is a street that continues west from Edinburgh's Grassmarket towards Lothian Road. It was the site of the western entrance to Edinburgh through the city wall.
