Glencorse reservoir is on the Midlothian side of the Pentlands National Park. It was opened in 1819 and has a capacity of 367,000,000 gallons. Its main purpose at the time of construction was to provide water for the mills at Auchendinny and Glencorse as well as to supply water to the City of Edinburgh. Since the opening of the Talla and Megget reservoirs at the end of the 1900s Glencorse has not been used as a main supply point for the city's water but is used to top up the primary supply during times of dry weather or unusually high demand.
