Morningside was once a village on a main road south from Edinburgh. In the 1850s it was no more than a row of thatched houses and a blacksmith's forge and beyond the Jordan Burn was open countryside. Nowadays it is predominantly residential with a collection of small traditional shops, restaurants, supermarkets, a library and hospitals.
No.s 14 and 15 Jordan Lane were converted into one house for Sam Bough RSA, a famous landscape painter [1822-1879].
