The image of the Rose Knight on his rearing horse with his lance drawn is very much influenced by the Aesthetic movement with the ornate design of his armour and the use of flowers and ribbons on his horse. The armour and the horse's decorations are fantasies playing off of how a medieval knight would appear, using shapes and styles of the Aesthetic movement. The background is again a reflection of then current trends in wallpaper design.
