The Stud Club was one of the Edinburgh jazz clubs that sprung up around the revival of traditional jazz. It was first set up by the clarinet player Sandy Brown at the Crown Bar in Lothian Road. It was later run by double bass player Jim Young in various locations. Police were wary of jazz clubs during the 1950s and kept trying to have them closed down.
