Aberfoyle is an historic town at the heart of the Lomond and Trossochs national park. It is situated near the Duchray Valley which houses the pipeline works which carry water from Loch Katrine to Glasgow. People of note linked to the area are Rob Roy Macgregor who was born nearby and who plied his trade as a cattle rustler in Aberfoyle and its surrounding districts, Mary Queen of Scots who evaded the English Army at a monastery nearby and Reverend Robert Kirk, Presbyterian minister, folklorist and author of 'A commonwealth of Elves, Fauns and Fairies.' Local legend says Kirk was carried off by the fair folk for divulging their secrets in his writings.
