The statue of Ramesses II was found in 1820, broken into six pieces. Attempts at restoration over the years failed until 1955 when it was succesfully restored to its original 11 metre height and displayed in a square in Cairo. It has since been moved after concerns were raised about environmental damage and can now be found at the Grand Egyptian Museum in the city.
