The accompanying text reads, 'The handsome entrance gates originally belonged to Falconhall, an old mansion house on the south-west of Edinburgh. With the falcons wrought in the iron-work of the gates and the stone on the pillars, they are most appropriate for the entrance of a zoological park'.
