Image is taken from the volume, 'The Scottish Zoological Park' dated c1913. The accompanying text reads, '...instead of being built of cement, it is quarried out of the natural rock. The length of the den will be 55 feet. It is bounded at the back and ends by the over-hanging cliff, while in the front a wide and deep pit prevents the lions escaping. The den is so arranged that it presents a succession of excellent views to the visitors ascending the walks.'
