Cassie, husband David Watt (not pictured), and son David R. Watt moved to 51 Durham Road, Portobello in 1933. The Watt's new home had the advantage of a large garden, which the elder David built up from scratch. He obtained used bricks from a nearby demolition site and laid a system of pathways through the garden. David also built a sundial for the front garden, and on the longest day of the year in June, he sat marking the shadows every half hour in wet cement.

Leo and Mary Ritchie (both pictured) are parents of Cassie Watt (nee Ritchie) and maternal grandparents of David R. Watt, the boy in the photo. Jessie Sanderson (nee Blair) is the mother of David Watt (not pictured) and paternal grandmother of David R. Watt.
