Paisley Close is located next to Bailie Fyfe's Close on Edinburgh's Royal Mile. In 1861, a 250 year old tenement building in Bailie Fyfe's Close collapsed killing 35 people. One boy, Joseph McIver, was heard to be calling out to the rescuers and was pulled from the rubble. Above the entrance to Paisley Close is a a stone carved sculpture of the boy and an inscription of what he is said to have cried to the rescuers: "Heave awa chaps, ah'm no deid yet'.
