The Admiralty building is the former headquarters of the Admiralty Board and the Imperial Russian Navy.
When WWI broke out in August 1914 it was decided to change the name of the Russian capital from the Germanic St. Petersburg to the more Russian equivalent, Petrograd. It again changed from 1924 - 1991 to Leningrad, and from 1991 to present back to St Petersburg.
The Neva River is the city's main river.
