Description
The two days we spent doing the equipment were deadly! We started at an unearthly hour in the morning to "unpack" the stuff, it had all to be chequed [checked] as we took it out of the train & before we loaded it on to our carts. We have brought out everything with us.
All the Hospital stores & clothing, food supplies, tent equipment & so forth - and if one single packing case goes amissing, I guess, there will be the very devil to pay! As each rickety little wooden vehicle (they call them carts!) was piled up, one of us mounted aloft & escorted it up to the Hospital. It bucketed with rain both days - such rain, such mud & such carts! We simply had to cling on for dear life & oh how bruised & bumped we got, something awfu'! "Some" perilous were these jaunts I assure you! It was the dampest job I've ever been put to I think & horribly cold in to the bargain. As we were going up & down, we met streams of refugée [refugee] carts leaving the town - so pathetic they looked poor souls. We "flitted" ourselves up to the Hospital building on the Tues: & we are billeted in the uper [upper] storey - a granary!
