Ferdinando Ongania [1842 - 1911] was an Italian antiquarian bookseller, with a shop in St. Mark's Square in Venice. From 1861 until his death in 1911 he devoted himself almost entirely to the printing of illustrated art books. His love of Venice inspired him to record the architecture of his beloved city.

Description for this print from the original index page from the publication:
"A marvellous work in stone which crosses the Grand Canal and unites the two Sestieri, of S. Mark and Rialto. From the XII to the XVI century this bridge was of wood, but in 1588 it was rebuilt in its present form by Antonio Da Ponte, and completed in three years at a cost of 250,000 Ducats. Note: Each of the six administrative districts into which Venice is divided is called a ses(x)tiere."
