Little Dorrit is Charles Dickens' eleventh novel and was published between 1855 and 1857. It is his most overtly political novel.
Amy or Little Dorrit was born in the Marshalsea debtor's prison. Her father, William inherits a fortune and they are able to leave the prison and travel abroad. Further financial troubles arise after her father's death when the fortune is lost in a banking scam.
Arthur Clennam befriends Amy Dorrit at the debtor's prison. Arthur loses all his money and ends up in the Marshalsea himself where Amy cares for him. The novel ends with their wedding.
