Clamshell Cave is on the east coast of the island of Staffa. Staffa is famed for its basaltic columns and for Fingal's Cave but there are several other notable caves, including Clamshell Cave.
The cave has an entrance of 5m (18ft) wide and reaches a height of 9m (30ft). It stretches back 40m (130ft). The columns on one side of the cave are curved and give the appearance of ribs or the timbers of ships. The opposite side of the cave is formed with the ends of the columns which make the walls look like a honeycomb.
