An interior photograph of Holyrood Chapel shows the nave of the chapel in ruins. A centre pillar is broken halfway down, the far wall is badly damaged and the roof is no longer present at all.

Holyrood Abbey stands next to Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh. The Abbey was founded by David I in 1128, several hundred years before Holyrood Palace. The Abbey was badly damaged during the Reformation. It was finally abandoned in 1768 after the roof collapsed.
