James Ker, Edinburgh
This basket is one of the finest surviving works of Edinburgh's most renowned silversmith's, James Kerr. The pieced pattern is made by using a saw. First holes are drilled though the silver, then a saw bade can be inserted through the hole, and the silversmith can cut out the desired shape. This process is repeated until the overall pattern is created. The piercing on this piece is crisp and of a high quality and creates a very light and delicate design.
