Trade Union Banner, Plasterers, reverse

Description

Red and pink silk damask banner with blue cotton border, corded silk fringe and different painted decoration on each side. Reverse, an allegorical painting with a draped figure of Truth in the centre, carrying a mirror; Justice on the left, with a sword and scales; Love, on the right.
Hope, kneeling with an anchor and Faith, in blue robes holding a cross. The beehive symbolises industry. Carrying tapes fixed by brass studs cast, G. Tutill 83 City Road, sole manufacturer of patent banners.

ST. HELENS SHEET GLASS FLATTENERS TRADE PROTECTION SOCIETY.T he Scottish National Operative Plasterers Federal Union was formed in 1888, absorbing the Edinburgh United Journeyman Plasterers Society. The union merged with the National Association of Operative Plasterers in 1967, one year before that union transferred engagements to the Transport and General Workers' Union.
