Parliamentary Reform Banner' Christopher North under the Reform Pump
Description
Yellow cotton banner with painted design and yellow wool fringe. Title scroll, blue with yellow lettering CHRISTOPHER NORTH UNDER THE REFORM PUMP. Christopher North was the nom-de-plume of Professor John Wilson, a Tory anti-reformist, writer and editor of Blackwood's Magazine. He is being drenched by water from pump worked by plumber. In his right hand North holds a book with the word 'Ebony Magazine'. The word Ebony is a pun on Blackwood.Carried in1832 painted in white along the bottom edge.

The Edinburgh Plumbers carried this banner, number 13 in the Reform Jubilee Grand Procession on 10 August 1832. It was also carried in the Reform demonstrations of 1866 and 1884.
