McGregor, Robert

Biography

Born in Yorkshire McGregor worked in damask printing in Dunfermline and as an illustrator in Edinburgh. He studied at Royal Scottish Academy schools; he started to exhibit in the 1870's recording in his art the daily life of the lower classes. Influenced by contemporary Dutch and French artists, McGregor lived and worked in Edinburgh but travelled much of Britain and France recording what he saw in a tonal style.
