Biography
Chad Valley is a brand of toys that is now owned by the Home Retail Group. Initially the Chad Valley company was a printing business that was established by Anthony Bunn Johnson in early 19th Birmingham. Later the family business moved to Harborne, in the valley of the stream called the Chad, from which the company name stems from. Chad Valley has been one of the UK's leading toy manufacturers for the 20th century, but in the 1970's it closed several factories and was taken over by Palitoy in 1978. The brand name was purchased by Woolworths In 1988 and was in use until the company's closure due to insolvency. Home Retail Group, the parent company of retailers Homebase and Argos, purchased the brand for £5 million on 20 January 2009.
