Alan Davie is one of the best known Scottish born artists, having exhibited all over the world. His paintings are in major art collections throughout Europe and America. A talented jazz musician, his interest in the rhythms and qualities of jazz music can also be discerned in the spontaneity and vibrancy of his symbolist images. Serpent's Breath, is a painting which prompts an emotional rather than purely intellectual response in the viewer. Although influenced by the American abstract expressionists, he has developed his own distinctly decorative and mythical style, drawing on ancient tribal art. Zen Buddhism and Celtic symbolism.
