This picture was completed while Gear was living and working among the CoBrA (COBRA) group of abstract painters in Paris. William Gear was one of the first Scottish artists to win an international reputation assisted by his wartime contacts and aquaintance with Europe. He also shared an exhibition with Jackson Pollock in 1949 in New York.
This painting is a good example of the formal elements and colour range that became the foundation of his abstract painting from this time on.
By permission of The Estate of William Gear.
