Dan Dare first featured in a comic known as Eagle on 14th April, 1950. In every issue Dan Dare ranged across space, battling his arch foe, the power-mad Mekon. The creation of Frank Hampson an English Artist, Dan Dare was the lead feature. Within days of being launched, the comic, totalling twenty pages, eight of which were in full colour, was selling nearly a million copies a week. The comic industry had never seen success like it before in the UK. The Dan Dare comic was later dramatised on Radio Luxembourg.
