Ernest Lumsden was born in London In December 1883. In 1908 he was invited to join the staff at Edinburgh College of Art, and this began an association with Scotland that lasted until his death. A consummate print maker, his book The Art of Etching published in 1924, is still regarded by many as the definitive handbook on the subject. His drawings of the city in the 1920's and 30's are among the finest images of the period.
