Wit and invention are hallmarks of the Fife born artist David Mach. This match head portrait is one of a series of sculptures that have their origins in Kinskihead, a stylised portrait of a German film actor, Klaus Kinski, that Mach produced in 1982.
The work was set alight accidentally, resulting in a charred and sinister appearance. Mach was pleased with the result and subsequently often lit his sculptures ceremonially in spectacular public displays.
This portrait is of the Edinburgh based art impresario Richard Demarco.
